"I want to be a king in AFI(Silver DOCS)-USA 2015

The feature-length documentary I Want to Be a King, directed by Mehdi Ganji and prodcued
by Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) will present at AFI DOCS in USA, June 17-21, 2015. 

AFI DOCS is a five day international documentary film festival that takes place at landmark venues in Washington, DC and the world-class AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, the independent film hub of the metropolitan region. With the presence of artists, audience members and political leaders, AFI DOCS shines a bright light on documentary film and harnesses the power of this important art form and its potential to inspire change. 

This film will have two screenings 18 and 20 June at AFI Silver Theatre & Cultural Center.

I Want to Be a King is the story of Abbas Barzegar, a villager from near Shiraz, who, with the help of his family, has been hosting international tourists for years. He takes them out to see the nomads; and he has a big dream…

The documentary represented Iran in the competition section of last year's edition of IDFA in the Netherlands. Mehdi Ganji won the Best Documentary Director award at last year's Fajr Int'l Film Festival. The film is also a finalist at Turkish TV Channel TRT's Documentary Awards.
