Iranian film director, screenwriter Kiumars Pourahmad passes away

Veteran Iranian filmmaker Kiumars Pourahmad passed away on April 5, 2023.

Kiumars Poorahmad was born in 1949 in Najafabad, Iran. He started his career as a film critic and assistant director in a TV series in the early 1970s. He made his directorial debut, Tatureh in 1983 after making some short films. Children and young adults with their problems are the central characters in most of his films.

Pourahmad also published his autobiography as a book named "Unfinished Childhood".

His directorial debut, ‘Tatureh’ came in 1983. Then he shifted to focus more on children and young adults themes portraying their desires and problems in his films.

Pourahmad achieved fame in Iran with his TV series ‘The Tales of Majid’ in 1990s adapted from as collection of stories by the acclaimed Iranian author Houshang Moradi Kermani. He was among the few Iranian film directors who was found of literary adaptation.

 Among his most notable films are: 'The Harbour' (1988); 'The Shame' (1992); 'The Morning After' (1992); 'Bread and Poem' (1993); 'Khaharan-e-gharib' (1995); Yalda Night (2001); 'The Night Bus' (2007); 'Where Are My Shoes?' (2016)
