Apricot Tree Film Festival Comes to an End
Iranian Film Wins Award in Armenia

The documentary “Karun – The Longest River of Iran”, directed by Sahand Sarhaddi, won an award at the 11th Apricot Tree International Documentary Film Festival of Armenia.
As reported by the Public Relations Department of Documentary, Experimental & Animation Film Center of Iran (DEFC), closing ceremony of the 11th Apricot Tree International Documentary Film Festival took place on Saturday, August 6, 2025, in Armenia. Jan-Tage Kühling- a German director of the Goethe-Institute in Yerevan, Serge Melik-Hovsepian- an Armenian/French director, and Hadi Afarideh- an Iraninan director, researcher, and lecturer served as jury in this edition of the festival.
This year, the Apricot Tree International Documentary Festival screened 20 documentaries from 17 countries. Two feature-length films — New Beginnings (Belgium) and Wind Has No Tail (Russia) — along with two short documentaries — Karun, the Longest River of Iran (Iran/Switzerland/Finland) and The Oasis I Deserve (France) — took home the festival's top awards.
Additionally, Reluctant Bachelor by Mehdi Bagheri was featured in the Special Screenings section, part of the festival’s non-competition program. The Apricot Tree International Documentary Film Festival is a key documentary cinema event in Armenia and the wider Caucasus region, showcasing selected works from all around the world.
